Dedicated to giving children the chance to function at their highest level as well as look and feel their best, the surgeons in the Plastic Surgery Division at Texas Children’s Hospital transform the lives of patients with complex surgical needs. The division treats all pediatric injuries or conditions from head to toe requiring plastic surgery.

Since its inception in 1974, the Plastic Surgery Division has developed an international reputation in a number of subspecialty areas of pediatric plastic surgery. Our physicians have specialized expertise in:

• Aesthetic plastic surgery, including reconstructive chest wall surgery, breast reduction, birthmark, lesion and mole removal, rhinoplasty and otoplasty
• Brachial nerve injury
• Cleft lip and cleft palate and craniofacial anomalies
• Hand surgery and microsurgical reconstruction
• Microvascular surgery for complex wounds from burns, orthopaedic injuries, amputation or replantation of extremities, nerve and muscle transplantation for facial nerve paralysis or severe injury leading to tissue loss
• Traumatic injuries, including burn scar repair, tumor excision, tissue replacement, scar tissue, deformities, skin infections and IV infiltration wounds
• Distraction osteogenesis

We also have a program for aesthetic surgery in adolescent that includes breast reductions and body contouring after massive weight loss.

Our physicians have been responsible for a number of important innovations, including the first use of tissue expanders to separate conjoined twins and the first parent-to-child nerve transplant. They are leaders and members of international groups and associations, including the medical advisory board of SmileTrain®.
