Shopping

Just blocks from Texas Children's Hospital and Baylor College of Medicine, Rice Village offers convenient shopping and dining with 350 retail shops, restaurants and services.

Parks and Recreation

Also within walking distance of Texas Children’s Hospital is the spectacular Hermann Park, a 445 acre park and garden center. Hermann Park conjoins Houston’s Museum District, home to 11 top-ranked museums. The Museum District features The Houston Museum of Natural Science, the Houston Garden Center, Miller Outdoor Theatre, and the Houston Zoo.

Performing Arts

Approximately three miles north, Houston’s downtown Theater District houses 8 world-class performing arts organizations, including the Houston Grand Opera, the Houston Symphony and the Houston Ballet. Families can easily board the MetroRail Red Line to travel directly to the Houston Theater District. The MetroRail stop is located only one block from the hospital at the intersection of Dryden St. and Main Street.

Sports

Houston is an epicenter for professional sports events.  The city is home to the Houston Texans, the Houston Rockets, The Astros, and the Houston Dynamo. Athletes from these teams may often be spotted visiting Texas Children's Hospital.

The Lyndon B. Johnson Space Center is located 20 minutes south of downtown Houston.

Just 50 miles away is Galveston Island, a popular weekend getaway for locals and long-term visitors. Galveston Island features numerous historical  and architectural attractions, a weekend shopping hotspot called The Strand, and more than 20 miles of public beaches along the Gulf of Mexico.
