In keeping with its
family-centered care concept, Texas Children’s has consolidated
useful resources on the new family services floor, located on the
16th floor of the
West Tower.
Resources on the family services floor include the following:

The
Pi Beta Phi Patient/Family
Library, founded in 1984 by
Houston Pi Beta Phi Alumnae Club, offers books, board games,
puzzles and movies for all ages. It also houses medical and
parenting resources, paperback fiction, magazines, foreign language
books, computers and a fax machine. For questions or to ask about
current hours, please call 832-826-1619.
In 2011, the Pi Beta Phi
Patient/Family Library West Campus opened to support the needs of
all visitors at West Campus.
Pi Beta Phi Book Nooks are
located in waiting rooms in the Clinical Care Center,
West Tower and
Abercrombie buildings. In addition,
Book Nooks can be found throughout the West Campus Hospital and
clinics,
Texas Children's Health Centers and
Pediatric Associates
practices.
The preteen room, for patients ages 8 to 12, features video games, a
pool table, a foosball table, scheduled craft projects and
computer stations. Hours for the preteen room are posted on the
door.

Children at Texas
Children’s Hospital get a dose of the sweetest medicine of all —
laughter.
Radio Lollipop,
Texas Children’s award-winning, in-hospital radio station,
broadcasts through the hospital’s television system on Channel 18 on
“Terrific Tuesdays,” "Wacky Wednesdays and "“Thrilling Thursdays,” 6:30 to 8:15 p.m.
Each broadcast features interactive games, art projects and contests
in which patients can win prizes.
Patients also can visit
the studio and watch presenters play Top 40 hits and children’s
favorites. Children may request songs from their rooms by calling
832-826-7890.
Radio Lollipop is
coordinated by
the Volunteer
Services department and is staffed by its own team of dedicated
volunteers. These volunteers lead patients in activities from the
studio and at bedside. These activities create fun and excitement
for patients, giving them something to look forward to at the end of
a long day.
Texas Children’s Hospital
is one of three Radio Lollipop hospitals in the nation. Call Volunteer Services
at 832-824-2257 or tune in to Channel 18 on Texas Children’s
Hospital TV for more information about Radio Lollipop.
School services are offered through the Houston Independent School
District (HISD) for children hospitalized for four weeks or longer.
Please ask your child specialist for more information on
enrollment or call 832-826-1660
for more information.
The hospital’s Hair Salon, sponsored by The Auxiliary to Texas
Children's Hospital, offers free basic services for patients
and parents. Please ask your child’s nurse for a permission slip to
get his/her hair cut and styled, and call 832-826-1609 for hours of
operation and to get an appointment.
The Junior League Family Lounge
offers vending machines and microwave ovens 24 hours a day for families.
The teen room is for patients ages 13 and older. It includes a large
flat screen TV for patients to watch movies and play video games.
Patients may also play arcade games, listen to music, enjoy various
crafts or play pool. Hours are posted on the door.
