Health care

Medical

Two medical plan options are available:

  • A Point of Service (POSII) with in-network and out-of-network benefits
    • Comprehensive network of physicians, specialists and hospitals
    • Office visits with co-pay
    • Preventive care
    • Immunizations
    • Pharmacy benefits
  • Health Maintenance Organization (HMO)
    • Comprehensive network of physicians, specialist and hospitals
    • No deductibles or claim forms
    • Office visits with co-pay
    • Preventive care including eye examination
    • Immunizations
    • Pharmacy benefits

Contributions made on a pre-tax basis, thus reducing your taxable income

Dental

Two dental plan options are available:

  • Traditional indemnity plan
    • Preventive services covered at 100 percent
    • Basic services covered at 80 percent with $50 deductible
    • Major services covered at 50 percent with a $50 deductible
    • Orthodontic benefits for children
  • Dental Maintenance Organization (DMO)
    • Preventive services covered at 100 percent
    • Co-pay only for basic and major services
    • Orthodontic benefits for adults and children

Contributions made on a pre-tax basis, thus reducing your taxable income

Vision

Two Vision plan options are available:

  • Network discount
  • Eye exams covered at 100%

Life insurance

Employer-paid basic life and basic accidental death and dismemberment benefits to full-time and part-time employees.

  • Coverage equal to annual base salary
  • Additional levels of supplemental coverage paid by employee available
  • Dependent child life and spouse life available

Long-term disability

Basic long-term disability coverage for full-time employees

  • Coverage equal to 50 percent of annual base salary
  • Additional levels of  supplemental coverage available

Flexible spending accounts (FSA)

Two flexible spending accounts are available to eligible employees - Health Care and Dependent Care. Money put in either account is contributed on a pre-tax basis, thus reducing your taxable income.

Health Care

  • Pre-tax savings for expenses not covered by your insurance (i.e., co-payments for office visits, prescriptions, eye glasses, dental, over-the-counter medications)
  • Minimum contribution $5 a pay period
  • Maximum contribution $5,000 annually

Dependent Day Care

Designed to help employees with dependent day care expenses necessitated by their work schedules.

  • Licensed nursery school, day care center for children under the age 13 or care for a disabled dependent
  • Minimum contribution $5 a pay period
  • Maximum $5,000 annually

  • Employee assistance program (EAP) benefits

Available for you and members of your immediate family, providing confidential assistance with personal or professional issues to help work or home life become more manageable

    • Ongoing health education, counseling and wellness promotion is available to all employees
    • First aid services and certain vaccinations, including annual flu shots

Free parking, bus vouchers and van-pool

Texas Children’s parking benefits make life a little easier for employees.

  • Employees park for FREE in our very own garage 19 at Braeswood and Greenbriar.
  • Bus and van-pool riders receive FREE vouchers.
  • Shuttle service from parking lots to the Medical Center campus is available Monday through Friday from early morning to late evening.

Time off

Personal time off (PTO)

  • Generous PTO accruals begin on your first day of employment
  • Full-time employees can earn more than four weeks of PTO for use during their first year of employment
  • PTO can be used for vacation, personal days, and personal or family illness or injury

Extended illness bank (EIB)

  • EIB accruals begin on your first day of employment
  • Full-time employees can earn up to five days of EIB time for use during their first year of employment for periods of extended illness or injury.

Family and other leaves of absence

  • Family Medical Leave for qualifying circumstances (administered by Employee Health)
  • Leave may be granted to employees for personal or educational needs or if they are not able to use Family Medical Leave.

Catastrophic time off (CTO)

  • Time off for employees who have exhausted their leave but still need up to four more weeks to care for themselves or immediate family members following a catastrophic illness.

Flexible scheduling and job sharing

  • Creative scheduling possibilities allow flexibility to manage personal and work responsibilities
  • Win with Weekends program offers nurses flexible scheduling to accommodate those who wish to work weekends, while decreasing the weekend rotation for those who prefer weekday schedules and working fewer weekends.
