HOUSTON – (Dec. 8, 2009) – Children and adults affected by pediatric cancer will once again have a unique chance to help patients and families at Texas Children’s Cancer Center, Dec. 11 and Dec. 12. The 2009 Cox Radio Cure Kids Cancer Radiothon kicks off at Texas Children’s Cancer Center on Friday, Dec. 11 at 5 a.m. and will run through 7 p.m. The Radiothon will resume at 7a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 12 and will conclude that evening at 7p.m.

For six years Cox Radio – Houston has been committed to raising awareness and funds to support pediatric patient care, education and research for cancer. “We are so excited to be returning again this year in our efforts to help cure cancer among children,” said Mark Krieschen, vice president and market manager of Cox Radio Houston. “The Radiothon is our signature event where we look forward to giving our listeners an opportunity to give back to the community during this season of giving. The Personalities look forward to reconnecting with the children they have met in years past and to building friendships with the new patients by sharing their stories to help raise awareness to find a cure for such a devastating disease.”

Last year’s listeners of the Radiothon pledged more than $770,000 in the fight against childhood cancer, supporting advances in research at Texas Children’s Cancer Center. “The cost of conducting life-saving research is extraordinary and we are increasingly dependent on the giving spirit of those eager to help us work toward our goal of curing childhood cancer,” said Dr. David Poplack, director of Texas Children’s Cancer Center.

The Radiothon is part of Children’s Miracle Network – a network of pediatric hospitals, which raises funds and educates the public about the important work ongoing in the country’s finest pediatric hospitals. GDF SUEZ Energy Resources NA and ForestersTM are the presenting sponsors of the 2009 Cure Kids Cancer Radiothon. Foresters is also the founding sponsor and international underwriter of the Radiothon program in the United States, Canada and the United Kingdom. Foresters support helps pay for the costs of Radiothons so all funds raised through each event stay in the local community. Foresters also provides additional support to Radiothon events in key markets through volunteering, local sponsorships, and direct donations to hospitals.

Listeners who would like to make donations by phone or who would like to share a personal story should call the Radiothon pledge line: 1-888-786-8811 or visit the Radiothon web page.
