Chevron Houston Marathon's Elite Athlete's to Visit Patients at Texas Children's Hospital

What: Elite athletes from around the nation-competing in the Chevron Houston Marathon-will visit with orthopedic patients at Texas Children's Hospital. The marathon’s top seeded runners will pass out t-shirts and hats to the patients and families. To kickoff the 2010 Chevron Houston Marathon weekend, Texas Children’s Hospital will be hosting the 13th annual Kids’ Fun Run, a non-competitive 3K and 1K run or walk for children of all abilities, on Saturday, Jan 16.

When: Friday, January 15, 2010, 2pm

Where: Texas Children's Hospital

Media may park for free in the circle drive of the Clinical Care Center, 6701 Fannin Street, and will be met and escorted by Public Relations staff in the lobby of CCC.

Who: Shalane Flanagan, from Portland, Oregon, is the 2008 Olympic bronze medalist and holds several American track records.

Paige Higgins, from Flagstaff, Arizona, is a member of the 2009 World Championship marathon team and will run the Chevron Houston Marathon for the first time on Sunday. Higgins is the #2 (Female) Seed.

Brett Gotcher, from Flagstaff, Arizona, placed 3rd in the 2009 USA Half Marathon Championships and will make his marathon debut as the #3 Seed in the Chevron Houston Marathon.

Dr. Albert Hergenroeder, chief of Adolescent Sports Medicine at Texas Children's Hospital, will help generate excitement around Texas Children’s Kids’ Fun Run, the kickoff to the Chevron Houston Marathon. He will educate the patients and families about the importance of children—of all abilities—leading a healthy and active lifestyle.

Specifics: There are various opportunities for children and their families to participate in the festivities surrounding the Marathon. On Saturday, January 15, Texas Children’s invites all children ages five to 15, including children with special needs, to participate in the 13th annual Texas Children’s Kids’ Fun Run. The non-competitive 3K and 1K event is the kickoff to the 2010 Chevron Houston Marathon weekend, giving all participants the opportunity to cross the official Marathon finish line.
