Houston, TX (Feb. 10, 2010) – In observance of Heart Month, The Texas Children’s Hospital Congenital Heart Surgery Service invited Dr. Doris A. Taylor, Ph.D., to Rice University to talk about tissue re-engineering.

This lecture is part of The Frances Rather Seybold Memorial Lecture and will be held at 7:30 a.m., Thursday, February 11, in Rice University’s Bioscience Research Collaborative Auditorium, 6500 Main Street. Texas Medical Center personnel devoted to pediatric or adult cardiology are invited to attend.

The lecture titled, “New Hearts from Old Cells: Building Bioartificial Hearts” focuses on the innovative and promising research being done around tissue engineering and the ability to generate organs from one’s own cells.

Dr. Taylor is the Medtronic Bakken Chair Director for the Center of Cardiovascular Repair at the University of Minnesota. The Frances Rather Seybold Memorial Lecture was established in 1973. The series is sponsored each year by The Frances Rather Seybold Memorial Fund, Texas Medical Center and Baylor College of Medicine’s Michael E. DeBakey Department of Surgery.
