HOUSTON – (April 12, 2010) –
Texas Children’s Hospital announces the appointment of Sandy
McElligott
as the new senior vice president and chief nursing officer. In this
role, she will oversee nursing at one of the
nation’s leading pediatric research and treatment hospitals.
“Sandy’s love of nursing and exceptional management skills have led
her to continually take on greater responsibilities and more
significant leadership roles,” said Mark A. Wallace, president and
CEO of Texas Children’s Hospital. “Her passion for excellence makes
her an invaluable leader in Texas Children’s ongoing mission of
excellence in patient care, education and research.”

McElligott, a registered nurse, has a 24-year tenure with Texas
Children’s Hospital, most recently serving as vice president of
Women’s Services. She started at the hospital as a graduate nurse
and soon became a nurse manager, then an assistant director.
Subsequent positions include nursing administrative specialist in
the Department of Nursing, director of Community-Based Hospital
Initiatives and assistant vice president of Women’s Services.
McElligott most recently served as interim chief nursing officer.

nursing professionals and recognizes the vital role of nursing in
patient care, advocacy and outcomes,” said McElligott. “This is an
exciting time at Texas Children’s as we undergo our largest ever
expansion, adding a new community hospital, maternity center and
neurological institute that will enable us to deliver quality care
to even more children.”
McElligott holds a Masters of Business Administration from Texas
A&M University and a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the
University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston. She is certified in
Medical and Healthcare Management from Rice University and is Board
Certified in Nursing Administration by the American Nurses
Credentialing Center.
McElligott’s distinguished service was
recognized in 2005 with Baylor College of Medicine’s Reba Hill Award
and in 1990 by Texas Children’s with the Super Star Manager award.
Her professional affiliations include the Sigma Theta Tau Nursing
Honor Society, the Society of Pediatric Nurses, the American College
of Healthcare Executives, and the Association of Women’s Health and
Obstetric and Neonatal Nurses.
