OF EXPERTS
Care at Texas
Children's Fetal Center is a collaboration of a
multidisciplinary team of experts. The core staff of the Texas
Children’s Fetal Center is comprised of fetal and pediatric
surgeons, maternal-fetal medicine specialists and specialized nurse
coordinators who openly communicate about all aspects of the care of
the fetal patient from acute intervention to the exceptional
neonatal care provided at Texas Children’s Hospital.
The team also
includes anesthesiologists, radiologists, cardiologists, neonatologists, urologists, neurologists, neurosurgeons and genetics
specialists with expertise in fetal conditions.

Michael A. Belfort, M.D., Ph.D.
Michael A. Belfort, M.D., Ph.D., is Chair of the
Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Baylor
College of Medicine (BCM) and Obstetrician and
Gynecologist-in-Chief of Texas Children’s Hospital. A
specialist in maternal-fetal medicine and fetal
intervention, Dr. Belfort has most recently served as a
professor in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology
at the University of Utah School of Medicine, Salt Lake
City, and also as the Director for Perinatal Research,
Fetal Therapy and Obstetric Telemedicine at HCA
Healthcare in Nashville, TN. A native of South Africa,
Belfort received his medical degree (MBBCH) at the
University of the Witwatersrand in Johannesburg, South
Africa, a Doctorate in Medicine (M.D.) at the University
of Cape Town, South Africa, and his Ph.D. at the
Karolinska Institute in Stockholm, Sweden. He completed
two residencies in obstetrics and gynecology (one in
Cape Town and one at Baylor College of Medicine),
trained in anesthesiology in South Africa, and did his
fellowship in maternal fetal medicine at BCM.

Darrell Cass, M.D., F.A.C.S., F.A.A.P.
Curriculum Vitae
Dr. Cass serves as co-director of the
Texas Children’s Fetal Center and is a member of the fetal surgery
team. After receiving his M.D. in 1991 from the University of
California Los Angeles School of Medicine, Dr. Cass pursued his
residency in general surgery at the University of California San
Francisco. During that time, Dr. Cass studied as a postdoctoral
research fellow at the Fetal Treatment Center at the University of
California San Francisco and at the Center for Fetal Diagnosis and
Treatment and the Children’s Institute for Surgical Science at The
Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. Dr. Cass is a member of the
American Pediatric Surgical Association, the International Fetal
Medicine and Surgery Society and is a fellow of the surgical section
of the American Academy of Pediatrics and American College of
Surgeons. He is board certified in
surgery and pediatric surgery.

Oluyinka Olutoye, M.D., Ph.D., F.A.C.S.,
F.A.A.P.
Curriculum Vitae
Co-director of the Texas
Children’s Fetal Center and fetal surgery team member,
Dr. Olutoye received his M.D. from Obafemi Awolowo
University in Ile-Ife, Nigeria, in 1988 and his Ph.D. in
anatomy from Virginia Commonwealth University in
Richmond, Va., in 1996. He completed his residency in
general surgery at the Medical College of Virginia
Hospitals, Virginia Commonwealth University, and his
fellowship in pediatric surgery at The Children’s
Hospital of Philadelphia and the University of
Pennsylvania School of Medicine in Philadelphia, Pa. Dr.
Olutoye is a member of the International Fetal Medicine
and Surgery Society, a fellow of the surgical section of
the American Academy of Pediatrics and and American College of Surgeons and is board
certified in surgery and pediatric surgery.

Timothy Lee, M.D.
Dr. Timothy Lee is a member of the fetal surgery team.
He received his M.D from Baylor College of Medicine (BCM)
in 2001, continued at BCM to pursue his residency in
general surgery and completed his fellowship in
pediatric surgery at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital in
2010. He specializes in the study of fetal therapies and
neonatal surgical research. One of his active areas of
research is in the development of prospective clinical
research program which will be able to study clinical
outcomes in an evidence based manner. The focus of this
research will be concentrated in neonates that present
with surgical diseases such as congenital diaphragmatic
hernia, gastroschisis, necrotizing enterocolitis, and
the use extracorporeal membrane oxygenation for
cardiorespiratory failure. He is board certified in
surgery and pediatric surgery.

Wesley Lee,
M.D.
Dr. Wesley Lee serves as the Director of Fetal Imaging
Research at Texas Children’s Hospital and the Section
Chief of Women's and Fetal Imaging at Baylor College of
Medicine . Dr. Lee earned his medical degree at Oregon
Health and Science University School of Medicine in
Portland, Oregon. He completed his residency at Parkland
Memorial Hospital - University of Texas Southwestern
followed by a fellowship in Maternal-Fetal Medicine at
Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, TX. Dr. Lee’s
clinical interests include prenatal diagnosis of
congenital anomalies, 3D/4D ultrasound, fetal MRI, and
prenatal diagnosis. He has authored many scientific
articles and book chapters pertaining to these interests
and is also is an Associate Investigator with the
Perinatology Research Branch of the Eunice Kennedy
Shriver National Institute of Child Health and Human
Development (NICHD). Dr. Lee is board certified in
Obstetrics and Gynecology and Maternal-Fetal Medicine.

Angel Krueger, R.N.
Angel Krueger has been a registered nurse for 17 years and has been
at Texas Children’s Hospital since 1998. Prior to working in the
Fetal Center, she provided care for patients and families with acute
and chronic renal disease. Her primary responsibility at the Texas
Children’s Fetal Center is the care of mothers and their families
with a prenatal diagnosis of Spina Bifida and other congenital
anomalies. Angel provides coordination of care for this select group
of patients among all areas of a multidisciplinary team. She has
always enjoyed the patient and family education component of
nursing. She believes that empowering patients and families through
education is one of her most important roles.

Laura Mollett, R.N.
Laura Mollett has been a registered nurse for more than 10 years.
Her primary responsibility is to facilitate the coordination of a
multidisciplinary plan of care to a select group of patients,
mothers and families with the diagnosis of Twin-Twin Transfusion
Syndrome and various fetal anomalies. She also works closely with
the Program for Multiples helping mothers develop a customized plan
for their pregnancy. Throughout her nursing career, her main focus
has been OB/GYN, specifically Maternal Fetal Medicine. Prior to
coming to Texas Children’s Fetal Center she held a similar position
at the Texas Center for Maternal and Fetal Treatment in Houston,
Texas. She has always been passionate about helping, coordinating
and supporting patients and families of high-risk pregnancies.

Susanne Trout, RD, LD, IBCLC
Susanne is the program coordinator for the Texas Children’s Fetal
Center Program for Multiples. She is responsible for facilitating
the coordination of a multidisciplinary plan of care to a select
group of patients, mothers and families including such diagnoses as
Twin-Twin Transfusion Syndrome and various fetal anomalies. Her
focus is counseling women with multiple gestation pregnancies as
nutritional intervention is currently the only method that has been
shown to improve outcomes in multiples. She is an International
Board Certified Lactation Consultant and her specialties include
nutrition management for women with multiple gestations, infant
nutrition support and breastfeeding and teaches monthly
breastfeeding classes.

Carmen Watrin, R.N., M.S.N.
Carmen Watrin has been a registered nurse for 25 years. She has been
at Texas Children’s Hospital since 1992 caring for children and
their families with congenital heart disease, specifically
undergoing congenital heart surgery.
Her primary responsibility at the Texas Children’s Fetal Center is
the care of mothers and their families with a prenatal diagnosis of
congenital heart disease and other anomalies. Carmen’s goal is to
support the mother and family from the initial referral through
delivery. During this time, Carmen coordinates specialized fetal
diagnostics, consultation, medical care and intervention experts
from the Texas Children’s Fetal Center. Carmen ensures personalized
and comprehensive care ensuring a coordinated delivery with the
specialists for mother and baby. She enjoys working with her
families and helping them prepare with education and a commitment to
excellence.

Ivonne Gutierrez
Ivonne is an intake coordinator with The Texas Children’s Fetal
Center. Her responsibilities are to coordinate prenatal appointments
such as exams, consultations and tours of our facility. Ivonne is
bilingual in both English and Spanish. Prior to joining the Fetal
Center, she served in the Cardiology department with Texas
Children’s Hospital as an ambulatory service representative for 8
years. She has a passion for providing the best patient care for our
patients and families.

Irma Marshall, CNA
Irma is an appointment coordinator with the Texas Children’s Fetal
Center. Prior to her role with the Fetal Center, Irma served as an
appointment scheduler for Pediatric Services with Texas Children’s
Hospital for over 9 years. With her many years of experience at the
hospital, Irma brings a great deal of knowledge and skill to her
current position. Irma is bilingual in both English and Spanish and
prides herself on consistently delivering great customer service.
