Texas Children’s Gynecology Center

The Pediatric and Adolescent Gynecology Division at Texas Children’s Hospital is one of the few established programs for the surgical treatment of pediatric and adolescent gynecologic disorders in the United States and is the only such program in Texas. The division, part of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, routinely performs common and highly complex surgical procedures for a wide range of gynecological on patients ranging from newborn to 21 years old.

Referrals to the Pediatric and Adolescent Gynecology Division include problems such as labial adhesions, congenital abnormalities, endometriosis and chronic pelvic pain, vaginal discharge, abnormal Pap smears, breast lumps or masses, polycystic ovary disease (PCOS) and dysfunctional uterine bleeding.

Our staff provides well-woman exams, contraceptive management and routine pap smears in addition to providing care for the chronically ill child in need of gynecological care, routine surgical procedures such as ovarian cysts, and more complex gynecological problems that require surgery.

Our team of full-time, fellowship-trained pediatric and adolescent gynecologists also participates in multidisciplinary clinics and work closely with Texas Children’s Pediatric General Surgery, Urology, Endocrinology and Adolescent Medicine Divisions to ensure the best possible care is provided to our patients.

The Pediatric and Adolescent Gynecology Division participates in three unique multidisciplinary subspecialty clinics:

  • Gender Medicine Clinic: A collaboration with a team of experts from the Endocrine, Urology and Genetics Divisions.
  • Anorectal Malformation Clinic: A team approach that includes the Pediatric General Surgery and Urology Divisions.
  • Young Women’s Bleeding Disorders Clinic: Working in close concert with Texas Children’s Hematology Center, this is the only program in the nation to offer “one-stop” care for gynecologic, hematologic and psychosocial issues for teenagers with menorrhagia and bleeding disorders.
