Texas Children’s Pharmacy Department
The pharmacy department operates several inpatient
pharmacies with decentralized pharmacy services, a same day surgery pharmacy and an outpatient pharmacy. The pharmacy staff consists of over 200 pharmacists and technicians, who prepare and dispense medications for both the inpatient and outpatient populations. The pharmacy operates within an established closed formulary system and also prepares special or alternate dosage forms / prescriptions that may be difficult to obtain in the community.
In addition to traditional pharmacy services, the pharmacy department also provides a variety of clinical pharmacy services to our patients. Pharmacists play an active role in monitoring patient’s drug therapy. Our mission is to provide quality pediatric pharmacy care through optimal medication use and safety in the support of the hospital’s mission and values. In effort to accomplish this, the pharmacy creates an environment conducive to developing the clinical skills of pharmacy students, residents, and pharmacists. The department of pharmacy offers two different residencies: a
PGY-2 Pediatric Residency as well as a PGY1/PGY2 Combined Residency with MS in Health-System Pharmacy Administration through the University of Houston.
After-hours prescription services are
provided by the emergency center pharmacy located in the
West Tower.
