  Texas Children’s Protective Health Services

A multidisciplinary team of a pediatrician, social worker, child life specialist and nurse evaluates children and adolescents suspected of having been physically abused or neglected. Patients are referred to the program by physicians, psychologists, counselors, therapists, Children's Protective Services, law enforcement officers and parents. The team also supervises the care of children and adolescents who present at the Texas Children's Hospital's Emergency Center with concerns of physical abuse or neglect. Patients are seen primarily for a physical examination, psychosocial evaluation and referral for counseling and therapy. The clinic also acts as a bridge for children who have been hospitalized because of abuse or neglect as they transition back into the community.
